Introduction to Dolphins!
Dolphins are beautiful creatures but sadly their numbers are decreasing, they are becoming endangered in this world. Each year over 20,000 dolphins are killed or die too young to be able to reproduce meaning the number of dolphins living in the sea falls by quite a bit. If this carries on, in about 10 years time we could be faced with only a couple hundred left in the wild. When in captivity the dolphins are lucky to reach their 20s which is quite young compared to an average dolphin’s lifespan. However in the wild dolphins can live into their 40s or 50s; or even 90 years old which is the oldest dolphin ever recorded. The biggest threat to the dolphins is the Japanese because they have the highest rate for whale and dolphin hunting and the biggest slaughter rate in the world. Whilst on the beach, killing the animals, the Japanese pull a curtain across the shoreline to hide the killing process from the public.
Below shows a water park performance in sea world San Diego where dolphins have been captured trained and used to entertain the public on a day to day basis. It may be fun to watch for the public but for the dolphins its hard work and cruel.
